Common Copier Problems (click selection below to see possible solutions)
- Copier Jamming Issues
- Copier Quality Problems
- Copier Appears to be Dead/R.I.P
- Copier Warning Status Light is On
There are many causes for paper jams in your copier. If you are experienced in troubleshooting copiers and printers, you may have probably already:
- Taken the paper out and fanned it
- Made sure it is square in the tray and it’s not over filled
- Looked to be sure the tray paper setting matches the paper size you are printing
- Checked that nothing is on the document feeder covering the sensors that indicate paper size
There is one more common paper jam problem that is more complex than the already stated solutions. If you are running thicker paper than normal (cover stock, 70# color laser copy, envelopes etc.) you need to change the tray paper settings to thicker paper and then match that in the printer properties. There are several settings and usually are indicated by thick 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 or envelope settings.
- The best measurement for paper is NOT the # or lb size on the label.
- The best measurement is the g/m2. That is grams per square meter.
For instance 65# Cover is heavier than 67# Bristol. It is clearer to understand thickness with the gsm or g/m2 measurement. If the gsm is higher, then the paper is thicker.
